Development Approach

Manukin is developing a patent-pending acoustic awareness system intended to improve low-speed vehicle perception in electric mobility environments.

As electric vehicles reduce perceptible engine noise at lower speeds, pedestrians and other road users may receive fewer intuitive cues about vehicle presence and motion. This development effort explores mechanically generated, behavior-linked acoustic cues designed to improve localization and interpretation of vehicle activity without increasing unnecessary urban noise.

The system under development:

  • Is designed for compact vehicle integration

  • Does not rely solely on conventional speaker-based alert systems

  • Seeks to provide cues correlated with real vehicle behavior

  • Is engineered with urban acoustic responsibility in mind

The current feasibility phase includes:

  • Early functional prototype fabrication

  • Mechanical architecture refinement and systems integration

  • Controlled acoustic characterization and measurement

  • Formative human-centered evaluation

  • Identification of key technical risks and system tradeoffs

This phase is focused on establishing technical feasibility, quantifying system performance characteristics, and informing responsible pathways toward validation and pilot testing.

Detailed implementation architecture remains protected under patent-pending intellectual property.
